Hiatus

30 Aug

So…it’s been awhile. Something about hot weather and high humidity makes it hard for me to type.

A bit of what I’ve been up to…

The High Trestle Trail. Amazing! Get yourself to Madrid after dark and see for yourself.

A trip to Washington. Leavenworth is a Bavarian village in the heart of apple country.

Major surgery for my pooch. He’s mostly toothless now but it doesn’t slow him down. So resilient, this one!

I’m a fan of the pedicab. Seriously. They make me Very happy. But I promise to spend less time with pedicabbies and more time with WordPress!

See you soon!

Mural

5 Jun

I attended a private showing of Jackson Pollock’s Mural this morning at the Des Moines Art Center.

The painting is breathtaking and one could spend hours following the swirls around the canvas.

Mural will be at the Des Moines Art Center until July 15. Go see it!

La Pizza House

3 Jun

I finally made it to La Pizza House.

The east side institution has had a hard go in recent years. It has opened and closed a handful of times and changed ownership.

The pizza is thin and crispy with a sweet sauce and copious toppings.
This wasn’t my favorite pie (my heart belongs to spicy pie) but I would eat this pizza again.

Mud Run

21 May

I completed the Kosama Mud Run at Sleepy Hollow! This is the before shot.

This is the “after” shot. We earned those feathers by slogging through 3+ miles of muddy obstacles and hills.

Oh, the hills.

Team last-minute decision…always makes good decisions!

We entered this thing 2 days before we ran it. I was a bit apprehensive and definitely got nervous just before the race. It was fun and challenging. And we’ll probably be doing it again.

With custom T-shirts.

Bumble Bee

18 May

I love honey. On my toast, in a toddie, on a spoon straight from the jar. My brother (that’s him up there) has worked with bees for several years and I admire him for that. I see a lone bee and turn the other way. Or stay very still.

I have a reasonable fear of bees. Anything that stings, I try to stay away from. They’ll leave me alone if I leave them alone, right?

Prepared to get my buzzzzz on. (sorry)

The bee wrangler. Short sleeves?

And shorts!

I took all precaution. Fully covered from head to toe.

The hives.

More Sensory Overload

18 May

This was a black light installation at Sensory Overload. Pretty interesting.

Sensory Overload 1

15 May

The Des Moines Social Club converted an old middle school on the east side of Des Moines into a full sensory experience.

The building hadn’t been used in years (and it smelled like it) so we had to sign waivers upon entrance.

Several local artists displayed their wares and converted the former classrooms into interesting installations.

This guy covered himself in ash.

Scrappy do.

Elvira.
